Case Study

Tamale Maker

  • Size: 32lbs
  • Alloy: CF8M
  • *Notes: Collaborative effort to simply a multi-piece design to a single piece

Our customer has been making this assembly as a weldment for many years. By choosing the investment casting process they have been able to reduce the labor required to produce the sellable machine. The new casting is stronger, more esthetically pleasing, and does not have any crevasses which trapped food/bacteria meaning the casting is easier to clean and maintain and thus safer for the consumer. The customer is very pleased with the CF8M design.

This part is now a one-piece casting which removed the requirement for any welding. Lightening pockets were added to make the part as light as possible while still maintaining the strength needed for utilization. Branding was also incorporated into the casting design.

This casting was a dual effort between TPM and the customer. The customer presented us with their current frame assembly and asked TPM to design a new frame that would best utilize the investment casting process. The only parameters given were the mating parts must still fit and function and the casting needed to be fit for food production. The resulting design was embraced by the customer and they now want to have TPM produce this part in aluminum as well.
