Case Study
Horse Bridle
- Size: .30 lbs.
- Notes: Investment casting offers a better way to make this part
TPM was approached by a client needing to make parts for horse bridles, saddles and other various parts that he makes to sell at horse shows and rodeos. For hundreds of years parts like this were made by the old-time blacksmith that we have all seen on TV or movies. Pieces of metal heated up and pounded with a hammer to the desired shape. Needless to say, this is a time-consuming process that has limited alloys available and results in every part being “unique”. Other options include stampings, laser or water jet cutting etc, but these topically require much higher volumes of parts to be produced.
TPM is able to cast this part and several other shapes in various alloys for our customer. Relatively low volumes are not an issue and the parts are now highly repeatable and no longer “unique”. This part is a great demonstration of a type of part not often thought of as an investment casting opportunity – that really is a near perfect fit for our process.
The end result is that TPM was able to provide parts to our customer with a very nice surface finish and dimensional repeatability.
